Colibri Resource Corp (TSXV: CBI) is a precious metals exploration company focused on advancing high-potential gold projects in Sonora, Mexico. With a portfolio of over 7,000 hectares of mineral-rich claims and three active joint venture partners, we are strategically positioned to uncover valuable mineral resources in one of the world’s most historically significant mining regions.
At Colibri Resource Corp, our mission is to transform high-potential, underexplored properties into valuable assets by leveraging modern exploration techniques and strategic partnerships. We focus on projects located along prolific mining trends that have a history of artisanal mining activity. By targeting historical high-grade artisanal zones, we aim to identify bulk tonnage opportunities that can be developed into larger-scale mining operations.
Our approach combines state-of-the-art geological analysis with proven exploration methods to validate the potential of these properties before committing significant capital. We are dedicated to creating sustainable value for our shareholders, stakeholders, and the communities we work in, while unlocking new opportunities in one of the world's richest mining regions—Sonora, Mexico.
Sonora has long been recognized as Mexico's most prolific mining State, known for its rich deposits of precious metals, particularly gold. Its favorable geological conditions, combined with a history of artisanal mining activity, present a unique opportunity for modern exploration techniques to unlock new discoveries. We focus on this region to capitalize on its underexplored potential while maintaining a strategic advantage over competitors.
Sonora consistently ranks as the leading gold-producing state in Mexico, contributing a significant portion of the country’s total gold output. In some years, it has accounted for over a third of Mexico’s gold production.
The Caborca Gold Belt, located in NW Sonora, is one of the most prolific gold mining districts in Mexico. This region hosts several major mines and offers significant potential for new discoveries. Colibri's flagship EP Project is located in this belt, surrounded by major producers like Fresnillo Plc who own claims in excess of 250,000 hectares in the immediate area.
Sonora’s rich mining history dates back to the 16th century when Spanish settlers began extracting gold and silver. Over the centuries, artisanal mining developed across the state, creating vast, underexplored areas with potential for modern mining techniques to uncover new resources.
Mining is a critical economic activity for the state of Sonora, providing thousands of jobs and contributing to regional infrastructure development. The state is home to both large-scale, multinational mining operations and smaller artisanal mines.
Some of the largest mining projects in Sonora include La Herradura Mine (operated by Fresnillo Plc), one of Mexico’s largest gold mines, and Noche Buena, another significant gold-producing mine in the region. These projects underscore Sonora's importance as a major hub for gold production in Mexico.
The geology of Sonora is ideal for gold exploration, with the presence of orogenic gold deposits, epithermal systems, and other formations that are highly prospective for gold and other precious metals. The combination of volcanic rock formations, fault structures, and historical artisanal mining suggests significant untapped potential.
Sonora has seen increasing interest and investment from international and domestic mining companies. This trend is driven by both rising gold prices and the state's underexplored potential, particularly in regions like the Sierra Madre and Caborca Gold Belt.
Sonora is considered a mining-friendly jurisdiction due to its relatively stable regulatory environment, access to skilled labor, and established infrastructure that supports mining operations, such as roads, ports, and power supplies.
As the industry evolves, mining companies in Sonora are increasingly focusing on sustainable practices and environmental responsibility. Modern mining operations are subject to strict regulations to minimize environmental impact, protect biodiversity, and ensure the sustainable development of natural resources.
